The American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) established the Peer Review Program more than 25 years ago to enhance the quality of accounting, auditing and attestation services performed by AICPA members in public practice.  The AICPA Peer Review Program illustrates the accounting profession's dedication to integrity and protection of the public and is driven by adherence to the highest possible professional standards.

Peer review is a process by which a qualified CPA firm reviews the operational procedures of another CPA firm to ensure that those procedures meet certain standards. The program is intended to help the public understand the oversight of firms and gauge the ability of a firm to provide certain services at an expert level.

Peer reviews are required of all firms that are members of the American Institute of CPAs, and all Texas CPA firms that perform audits, reviews or compilations relied upon by third parties. Currently, most CPA firms undergo a review of their accounting and auditing practice at least once every three years.
